The first Sunday after our arrival we attended Deliverance church, Rev Simons’ local church. I was invited to speak at the first morning service at 08:30 am and Paulette the second 11:00 am. After the first service, I was transported away to speak at another church which had requested me. However, the second service at Deliverance church had a surprise, unannounced visitor attend, a government minister no less.
This minister was recently in the US where he was involved in a serious road incident and returned to Kenya where he was hospitalised. From the hospital, a request was made to the Fellowship for prayer. The response was a delegation of the Fellowship visited the minister in hospital and prayed for him.
Having received prayer from the Fellowship, the minister immediately discharged himself from the hospital and claimed/received full healing.
This prompted the minister to travel from Nairobi, a journey in excess of 2 hours with bodyguards, to attend church with the Fellowship in Othaya. The minister showed appreciation to the Fellowship by donating KS 200k (approx £1600) to the work of the ministry.
There’s strong evidence that the Pastors Fellowship is having a positive impact on the local community socially. Interaction with all sectors of the community is commonplace, businesses, civil service workers, schools and the ordinary person continually interact with the pastors around the town. Although a relatively small and close community, it is still marked by the frequency with which people are ready to stop and have exchanges in shops and in public with leaders going about their daily activities.
The Fellowship is well positioned for growth. That is to make a significant impact on the spiritual climate of Othaya and surrounding areas. Every opportunity is being taken to share the Word and to impact society positively. Responding to the needs of the people for prayer and ministry is attracting attention. They are also remaining open to aid and assist their development with guest speakers being invited, training (leadership) conducted and regular reviews. I believe that they’d be open to receive the teachings at our disposal to aid their development. Our findings were generally positive with some good indicators of growth. As a result, we’re looking at establishing even closer ministry links through mission trips and dialogue. Areas for particular attention would be support for the Mentoring program, Women and Relationships building, and ongoing Leadership Training and Development.
